| 01/10/2007 Nissan X-Trail Nippon Open 2007 draws olympians The Nippon Open is always a great contest because of how unique it is,â says Burton Global Team rider and 2006 Olympic gold medalist Shaun White. âBeing in Japan, with fans screaming and so stoked to see you â it makes the contest special. Plus, it will be nice to compete for the $100,000 Open Championship.â âI love going over to Japan to eat sushi and miso soup before and after the Nippon Open,â says Burton Global Team rider and 2006 Olympic gold medalist Hannah Teter. âThese days, Iâm giving all of my contest winnings to charity, so if I do well at the Global Opens and win the $100,000 championship, itâs all going to World Vision.â The Nippon Open is Japanâs most anticipated annual snowboard event with slopestyle finals on Saturday, February 24 and superpipe finals on Sunday, February 25. Now in its 14 th year, the Nippon Open attracts thousands of spectators to experience some of the most progressive and competitive snowboarding in the world. Riders who compete in the slopestyle and/or superpipe competitions will earn points towards the menâs and womenâs Burton Global Open Series Championship titles each worth $100,000, the largest single payout in snowboard contest history. Slopestyle and halfpipe winners will also receive complimentary airfare and accommodations for the US Open, the next event in the Burton Global Open Series. Hundreds of international amateur and pro riders are expected to attend the upcoming Nissan X-Trail Nippon Open including top pros like Japanese riders Kazuhiro Kokubo, Takaharu Nakai and Shota Suzuki, Canadian Natasza Zurek and American riders Shaun White, Hannah Teter, Kelly Clark, Ross Powers, Danny Davis and Mason Aguirre. Nissan X-Trail Nippon Open 2007 is part of the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour, the largest group of independent freestyle snowboard events in the world.
